Flower Magic Sindy Tries Barbie Clothes: Vintage and Modern Fashions Put to the Fit Test
Noted by Taswegian1957 · 731 reads
Flower Magic Sindy fits a surprising range of Barbie outfits, from Fashion Fever to vintage fashions, with shoes and accessories bringing a few caveats.

Flower Magic Sindy has found a roomy new wardrobe in Barbie’s closet. A hands-on fit test with vintage and later Barbie fashions turned up more successes than expected, including outfits that fit well and shoes Sindy could wear. The details matter: shoulder straps slipped on one look, some footwear needed coaxing, and a bikini bottom sat low enough to reveal Sindy’s molded panties.

The experiment began after a set of Kid Kreations Sindys had been out for a closer look. Rather than return them to the doll room, the writer borrowed clothes from Barbies on the desk and tried them on Flower Magic Sindy. A first group of outfits from newer-body Barbie dolls fit particularly well. The writer’s explanation is that those body proportions are closer to Sindy’s than the proportions on some older dolls.
That result contrasts with a childhood memory of trying a cousin’s Barbie fashions on Sindy, Tammy and Tressy. Fit varied from doll to doll, and shoes were a sticking point: vintage Sindy and Tammy had larger feet, while some clothes worked on Tressy and others did not. The current try-on suggests that body shape and the particular garment matter more than a simple Barbie-to-Sindy size comparison.

Hair care was part of the same doll-room session. Sindy’s hair had become flyaway, so it was washed and conditioned, then styled with mousse. The writer reports that it seems less flyaway afterward. It’s a small practical detail, but it helps explain why this was more than a quick outfit swap: the doll was being prepared for a series of looks.
Vintage fashions and later Barbie lines
The wider test included vintage outfits alongside Fashion Avenue and Fashion Fever. The writer uses “modern” for those latter lines, while noting that they date from the nineties and early noughties. Results were encouraging, though each outfit brought its own fit notes.
Round the World Fashions

The Round the World Fashions outfit sat reasonably well, but its shoulders kept slipping down. The headband stayed off the test list because Sindy’s head is much larger, leaving its fit uncertain. This is a useful reminder that a garment fitting the body doesn’t guarantee its accessories will work, too.
Fashion Avenue and Fashion Fever

The Fashion Avenue outfit proved a good fit, and Sindy could wear its shoes. The precise collection is still unidentified. The writer suspects it may be from a later Fashion Avenue group made for belly button bodies, but presents that as a possibility rather than a confirmed identification.

Fashion Fever also fit well. Sindy managed to wear the shoes, although one shoe wouldn’t pass over her heel. The writer considered warming it but left it as it was. For collectors comparing outfits across dolls, that distinction is worth keeping: the clothing fit, while one shoe remained a partial match.
Winter Holiday, Masquerade and other finds

A spare Winter Holiday outfit meant Barbie could keep her own. Its leggings and pants close with zippers. The leggings felt snug at the top but still fit Sindy well; the hood couldn’t go over her head. A spare pair of blue pants from Mood for Music also fit nicely. In both cases, the body fit was more successful than the headwear fit.

A spare Masquerade outfit, without its accessories, also fit well. So did the halter playsuit previously modelled by Malibu Barbie. The swimsuit from one of the writer’s Repro dolls was another strong match, fitting Sindy perfectly.

A generic dress bought from a seller in China through Etsy or eBay rounded out the test. It was described as well made and fit Sindy, though its low neckline showed considerable cleavage. The writer says the dress has the same effect on a couple of different Barbies and usually adds a little lace tube top underneath.

The next useful comparison would be an older Funtime Sindy, along with more fitted dresses and earlier Fashion Avenue outfits. City Chic Sindy in Sheath Sensation is already on the writer’s wish list. For now, Flower Magic Sindy’s try-on shows that cross-doll outfit tests can reward a little experimentation: check each garment, shoe and accessory individually, because fit varies piece by piece.
