Trick or Treat Studios’ Capt. Henry Rhodes Figure Brings Day of the Dead to Life

Trick or Treat Studios’ Capt. Henry Rhodes stands out in its Day of the Dead toyline for a reason beyond his military fatigues and weapons: the figure recreates the character’s gruesome fate with a pull-apart action feature. At 5 3/8 inches tall, Rhodes pairs an old-school action figure profile with a specific moment from George Romero’s 1985 film.

Rhodes is the human threat facing the film’s survivors. He commands armed soldiers, and his authority frays as events spiral out of control. That tension gives this figure a different role from the line’s zombies. It also makes him a useful companion piece for collectors building out the film’s cast, rather than another creature on the shelf.

Classic toy proportions, with a strong character likeness

The figure is built in the spirit of late-1980s and 1990s Kenner toys, a period when licensed lines for Beetlejuice, The Real Ghostbusters, Aliens, Terminator, Police Academy and Jurassic Park brought distinct film and television worlds into the toy aisle. Rhodes has the slightly exaggerated sculpt and active stance that suit that design language. His face also recalls Joseph Pilato, who played Rhodes in the film, without losing the broad, toy-like quality of the sculpt.

His green fatigues are practical and somewhat rumpled, fitting a character who’s been living among other survivors at the Seminole Storage Facility. The open shirt, visible dog tags and ammunition belt add to the impression that this is a specific film character rather than a generic soldier. The belt suggests machine-gun ammunition, though in the movie it represents .44-caliber rounds for Rhodes’ revolvers. It’s a small mismatch between the figure’s visual shorthand and the story detail, but the added gear gives the torso welcome texture.

Paintwork on the smaller torso details is clean, and the ammunition belt is fitted as a separate-looking sculpted element, though it cannot be removed. The shoulder harness helps complete the look and serves a practical purpose: both revolvers can be stored in its holsters. That kind of accessory fit gives the figure more play and display options, while keeping the equipment close to the character’s on-screen appearance.

The pull-apart feature is the main attraction

Rhodes has swivel hips, swivel shoulders and a swivel neck, plus a sliding torso. That modest articulation count suits the vintage-inspired design: the figure has a forward-moving stance even at rest, rather than relying on a wide range of joints for expressive poses.

The torso’s sliding action reveals sculpted guts and innards. Trick or Treat Studios calls the feature “Choke on 'em!” It references the character’s violent end in the film and gives the toy its strongest connection to a memorable on-screen moment. The effect is deliberately macabre, but it follows a familiar tradition in action figure play: removable or separating parts that let a character’s story unfold through the toy. For collectors who remember play features such as the removable arms on the Jurassic Park Dennis Nedry figure, this one should feel immediately legible.

The accessories round out the figure with three firearms: an M16A1 with a 30-round magazine and two Smith & Wesson 629 .44-caliber revolvers. The rifle is sharply recognizable, with firm-feeling plastic and a finish that keeps it looking like a toy accessory. The revolvers have silver-colored finishes and crisp sculpting; their grips aren’t black. Both fit in the shoulder holster, letting collectors display Rhodes armed or with the pistols stowed.

Rhodes is a character-focused pick for fans of Day of the Dead and collectors drawn to the look and feel of older licensed toy lines. His strongest details work together: a recognizable likeness, convincing gear, holsters that hold the pistols and a pull-apart feature tied directly to the film. He may be less instantly iconic than the zombies in the series, but that unusual action makes him an engaging display piece—and a distinctive addition to the lineup.
